*~ Run! ~*

There are few things I love more than watching the expression of pure joy on a dog’s face as they run. Such reckless abandon. The Hair of the Dog Blog photo challenge for the week of September the 23rd was ‘Run’. Here are some of my recent favorites featuring running pups!

*~ Shake ~*

Life has been a bit crazy here at Brave Black Dog Photography – so I am behind (again!) on my pet photography challenge posts. Playing catch-up: for the week of September the 16th, the Hair of the Dog Blog theme was ‘Shake’. Now, Loki being the dignified dog that he is and out of 1000s of photos, I don’t believe I have ever captured him shaking (in any form of the word …). Corra being the dopey, funny faced weirdo that she is – I have plenty of them, almost always involving water. So, this week, all photos feature Ms. Corra!

*~ Environmental ~*

For the week of September the 9th, the Hair of the Dog Blog weekly challenge theme was ‘Environmental’. I ended up taking my two pups to a little graveyard I always pass when driving to our local farm for our weekly CSA pickup. Every time I wanted to stop and check it out, but this was the week I finally did! Please enjoy my take on ‘Environmental’ :)

*~ Bokeh ~*

Last week, the week of September the 2nd, the Hair of the Dog Blog‘s pet photography challenge was ‘Bokeh’. Now, I have no idea what the proper pronunciation is – I have heard it every which way … I personally say ‘Bo-ka’, but I am sure there are many people who would say I am wrong! ‘Bokeh’ refers to the aesthetically pleasing out of focus areas in a photo. I think most people think of the lovely spots of light that are rendered in the background, but these are not necessary. Here are some creamy bokeh pictures I selected for this past week’s challenge!

*~ Backlighting ~*

Well, I meant to post this up Friday night, but I fell asleep early! The pet photography challenge put on by Hair of the Dog Blog for the week of August the 26th was ‘Backlighting’. I think the term is pretty self explanatory, but just in case you are unsure :) Backlighting is a technique in which a subject is lit from behind, or at right angles, to help separate the subject from the background. As an apology for being a day late, I added a couple of extras!

*~ Black & White ~*

For the week of August 12th, the Hair of the Dog Blog pet photography challenge was ‘Black & White’. The whole Brave Black Dog crew were on vacation that week, so we had ample time for photo shoots! Both of my pups’ coloring was made for black & white photos!

*~ Summer ~*

I have a whole back-log of Hair of the Dog Blog Pet Photography challenges I need to catch up on. I’ll be rolling one out every day for the next four days, what a treat :D First up is Summer, which was the challenge for the week of July 22nd. I love summer – all the color, all the noise, all the flowers and plants in their full glory! Hazy, lazy days of summer. Hope you enjoy my picks for this challenge.

*~ Urban ~*

This past week’s challenge put on by Hair of the Dog Blog was Urban. This was a divergence from what I normally shoot – mostly in natural settings, lots of greenery and open skies. I have always loved urban shoots, the rigid lines, the grittiness, and the vivid colors you don’t see as often in the natural world. I am just a country girl at heart though, and I like to avoid the city for the most part! However, I am a huge fan of some very well known pet photographers who do a lot of shoots with graffiti as a back drop and they are gorgeous! So, being the clueless nerd that I am, I googled to find where a good spot would be to get some graffiti shots, and it paid off! Here are the results from my graffiti/urban shoot with Loki and Corra.

And this is from my archives – Corra in Jamaica Plain, MA as a 4 month old puppy. Her ears were even more ridiculous back then!

*~ B is for … ~*

I am way behind on my Hair of the Dog Blog pet photography challenge posts … This challenge lasted 2 weeks, June 17th – July 1st and the theme was ‘B is for …’. Our photos just had to contain something that began with B! Here are my top picks from this fun challenge:

B is for Bark-alounger (shhhh, I love puns!)
